Premium ($5.99 a month, $39.99 a year or $149.99 once on the US App Store) removes the daily limit and the ads, opens every lesson and mock test, and also unlocks Hanzijo and Hanguljo. You can turn off auto-renew at any time in your Apple Account settings, and the Lifetime purchase is a one-time payment with nothing to cancel.

Yes. Kanjijo has 40 full mock tests in the JLPT format, eight for each level from N5 to N1, each with a listening section, the time limit of the real exam and a pass mark for each section. They are practice tests written for the app, not official JLPT papers. Free users can take the first two tests of each level.

Yes. Each of the 2,480 kanji has a memory story built from its parts, and so does each of the 9,020 words, with 885 radical stories underneath. A kanji card also shows the on’yomi and kun’yomi, the radicals and an animated stroke order, and the seven-stage SRS brings it back just before you would forget it.

Yes. Kanjijo has home screen, lock screen and quiz widgets that show the kanji and words you are learning, and the quiz widget lets you answer without opening the app. The widgets need iOS 17 or later. With Premium, Kanjijo can also draw your due words, a study calendar and a JLPT countdown onto your own photo and use it as your lock screen wallpaper.

Yes. There are 95 JLPT-style listening lessons with transcripts, translations and explanations, and 100 dictation lessons with 914 sentences cut from real Japanese videos, where you hear a line and put its words back in order. The 264 conversations add play-along audio and shadowing, where speech recognition checks what you say.

Not at the moment. Kanjijo runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 16 or later. The free tools on kanjijo.com, such as the JLPT level test and the kana quiz, work in any browser, including on Android phones.

Tap a word or a grammar pattern to see it in full, or show a translation of the line.

Yes. Point your camera at a sign, a menu, a book page or a screen and Kanjijo reads the Japanese on your phone, then shows the kanji, words and grammar it contains with their readings and meanings. The recognition runs on the device, so the photo is not uploaded.
