As Japanese learners ourselves, we know the struggle all too well. The hardest part is rarely just one skill. It is the fragmentation: kanji in one app, grammar in another, listening somewhere else, and no single roadmap that connects the whole journey from beginner to advanced.
We spent years battling the same frustrations: forgetting what we had studied just days ago, losing momentum because review systems were inconsistent, and jumping between scattered resources that never quite connected reading, listening, vocabulary, grammar, and kanji into one flow.
That’s exactly why we built Kanjijo.

Dictation (Listen & Build)
Train your ears with clips of real Japanese videos - not lessons, and not videos that subtitle every line. Clips play one sentence at a time; you listen, then rebuild the sentence by ordering the words, with above-level words given as hints. Replay, slow it down, and read a natural translation for every line, from N5 to N1.
Shadowing (Speak Along)
Inside the Conversation track, practice speaking like a native by shadowing each dialogue line. Tap the mic and say the sentence out loud - speech recognition checks your pronunciation word by word and highlights what you nailed and what to retry. A simple, powerful way to build rhythm, intonation and speaking confidence.
Learn From a Video
Paste a link to a YouTube video with Japanese subtitles and study the words actually spoken in it. Kanjijo reads the captions, cuts each sentence into separate words - something written Japanese never shows you - adds furigana, and underlines the words your lessons already teach. Tap a word for its meaning, tap a pattern to see what it is doing in the sentence, or show a translation of the line.

We believe that a cluttered app leads to a cluttered mind. Our interface is designed to keep you focused on what matters: the Japanese you are learning right now. Currently supporting English and Vietnamese, with more languages on the horizon.
Learning Path
To ensure true mastery, Kanjijo uses Sequential Unlocking. You must pass the proficiency test of your current lesson to unlock the next. This ensures quality learning - no skipping ahead, no gaps in knowledge.
Free and Premium
Free Tier
Kanjijo is free to download. Free users get one new lesson a day in each lesson track, daily reviews, the widgets, the first two mock tests of each level and the first three reading and listening lessons of each level. A short rewarded ad opens the next part of a lesson; the first lesson of each level has no ad, and ads never interrupt your reviews.
Premium Tier
Need more? Premium users can unlock unlimited lessons per day with absolutely no ads - not even rewarded ad prompts. The sequential unlock system still applies to maintain learning quality, but there’s no daily limit holding you back. And you get access to every lesson, every mock test and the study lock screen wallpaper. One Premium account also unlocks Hanzijo and Hanguljo.
